Angela N. Chileshe
Director, Banking and Currency
Mrs. Angela N. Chileshe is a central banker with over 30 years of experience at the Bank of Zambia. She began her career in 1995 in the Financial Markets Department as a foreign exchange dealer and rose to Manager – Liquidity Forecasting.
In 2009, she moved to the Banking, Currency, and Payment Systems Department as Assistant Director – Currency Management, where she played a key role in Zambia’s Currency Rebasing exercise, which removed three zeros from the Kwacha. She later served as Assistant Director – Statistics in the Economics Department and subsequently as Assistant Director – Balance of Payments Monitoring, leading the implementation of the electronic Balance of Payments (eBOP) system to modernize data collection and reporting.
In 2024, she was appointed Director of the Banking and Currency Department, where she led the successful launch of the Heritage Series currency family. The series was awarded “Best Banknote Series 2026” by Reconnaissance at the High Security Printing EMEA conference in Rabat, Morocco, recognizing excellence in design, production, and security features.
Mrs. Chileshe’s career reflects strong leadership, innovation, and a sustained commitment to strengthening Zambia’s financial and currency management systems.
